Podcast 4 – At the hotel reception

Our European Portuguese free audio course has already reached thousands of people. It was a podcast project we developed to help each of you reach your language learning goals and introduce you to the Portuguese culture.
But up until now, we had only launched it on YouTube from episode 8th onward. So after many requests from you guys, we decided to share the 7 first episodes.
The 4th lesson is here, and we continue following our imaginary friends on their Portuguese holiday. This week they venture into a hotel. What common Portuguese expressions will they hear and use? I also introduce you to cardinal numbers.

Also in this lesson: Research shows that humans store vocabulary in the brain more in the form of a complex web of interdependencies than in the commonly accepted β€œstorage box” fashion.

Ready to become fluent in European Portuguese?

For the last decade, we’ve been working on putting together the best possible European Portuguese course. After much research, feedback from our students, and a number of iterations, we think we’ve got it! πŸ˜‰

As a base, we used scientifically proven techniques to help with master pronunciation, phrase construction, oral understanding, grammar, and all the necessary bits to get you to fluency. At the same time, having learned foreign languages ourselves, we know the process needs to be engaging, varied, and enjoyable. The whole thing is presented as an adventure. It’s a course like no other, trust us!

  1. Thank you, Marlon and Carla, for posting this podcast. I’ve tried to find that article in the Journal of Memory and Language by the professor whose name sounded like Mikhail Vitiviac, but I’ve had no luck. Can you give me the citation? It sounded fascinating and I’d like to learn more.

I’m towards the end of Chapter 5 of your course, β€œThe Journey,” and I have nothing but GREAT WORDS to say, write, express, even yell to everyone seeing this comment about your wonderful course. I began my β€œJourney” about 3 months ago and have already developed much more confidence with European Portuguese that I ever thought I would, especially its pronunciation, made much easier with your (Marlon) pronunciation lessons. Speaking Portuguese is like β€œwindsurfing on consonants,” as expressed by Barry Hatton, in his book β€œThe Portuguese, a Modern History,” published by Interlink Books in 2020. I’m fluent in Italian, whose vowels are pronounced in a much more open manner, so not pronouncing the vowels is hard for me. But you both have made it much less daunting than I thought it would be. Thank you both for creating such a WONDERFUL COURSE, one I will be learning from again and again in future.πŸ™πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌ Jay Creighton
