Lesson 11 – Portuguese With Carla Podcast
Podcast 11 is cooked. In this European Portuguese lesson, you will learn some essential idioms that will make you sound like a native.
Also in this episode, on top of the usual pronunciation exercise and grammar tips, we will give you an almost unknown, but super effective technique to learn vocabulary up to 1/3 faster.
Don’t forget to check the exercises below the transcript.
PS: We used to include an exercise on this page, but it turned out to bit a little too difficult for most folks at this early stage of their learning journey, so we got rid of it for the time being. 😉

E – Sim. E até é mais barato do que o táxi.
M – Ah pronto, obrigado pela dica.
E – De nada.
C – Então, já está?
M – Sim, vamos embora.
Todos – Boa noite.
Post-jingle:
Obrigadinho, Carla e Marlon! Another great episode that was over before I knew it (time flies when you’re having fun and all that jazz…). This time I particularly appreciated that you guys repeated the English translation not just at the start or at the end of the entire Portuguese line of dialogue, but ALSO after every small segment you pronounced in Portuguese – if that makes sense? – Anyway, extremely useful! I must admit though, I think I’ll always have a big problem going forward (and especially when visiting Portugal)… I can’t keep a straight face anymore when someone says “atum”. You guys ruined it for me 🙂
Thanks Paolo, I’ll try to keep that in mind about repeating the translation when we’re breaking down the pronunciation and grammar.
The Atum thing…it has been a “private” joke in the Sabala household for a number of years now. ATUM!!! Can’t get that voice out of our heads 🙂
Hey nice post. I hope it’s alright that I shared this
on my Facebook, if not, no issues just let me know and I’ll remove it.
Either way keep up the good work.
Thank you! Thats not a problema at all, we’re happy you like it to the point of sharing it 🙂
Im so happy I found you guys! Until now I couldnt find anything like this to learn Portuguese, only Brazilian, so thank you for being here!
By the way, I was making Audio quiz 6, but I couldnt find the right answers for it? :/
Hi Vaida. Thank you for your kind words. More stuff coming soon. 🙂
As for quiz 6: once you go through it and press “Check”, the right answers should appear right after your answers. Like .
Is it working for you?
Obrigada Carla e Marlon, o curso (30 dias) ajuda-me ate Janeiro! Gostei os sotaques especialmente! I listen to portuguese meetings weekly and the accents are all so different, hard to atch everything for a learner. I notice by the way that your intro to the listening exercises say ‘fill the gabs’… should be gaps 😉 abracos
Thanks for the words of encouragement and for the type tip. 🙂 Keep it up!
Muito obrigada, Marlo e Carla! Outro ótimo podcast!
Eu gostei muito a breve conversa com a tua avó, Marlo.
Até breve!
Well thank you Violetta. Sim, ela era muito divertida. 🙂
