A Tool Specific to European Portuguese

As you know, we teach Portuguese from Portugal. Now, you can easily find resources to learn Brazilian Portuguese vocabulary online. There are numerous teaching platforms available, whether created in Brazil or not.

But the European variant is more challenging. Not only are there fewer apps and websites, but these are not always effective at teaching you local Portuguese. Besides, we wanted to give you something that would make sense with what you learn in The Journey. Our goal was to give you something that would grow your confidence and help you engage with the natives.

No More Switching Platforms

We know that many of our users used to pair The Journey with vocab learning apps, like Memrise or Duolingo. Doing so allowed them to keep learning and reviewing Portuguese words. However, switching between platforms is time-consuming and often means spending more money on the extra tools.

With the new Vocabulary Builder, all of that is in the past! You can practice without leaving the platform, and there will be no extra cost.

To create the Vocabulary Builder, we implemented many suggestions from our users. For example:

• spaced repetition
• the option to skip a word if you already know it
• short learning sessions
• the ability to review any pack you have learned
• various exercises to learn each word (multiple choice, audio, writing, etc.)

What You Will Learn

With your new Portuguese vocabulary flashcards, you will learn everything from adjectives to numbers and nouns. The feature combines images, text, and sound to help you remember new vocabulary. It also has different types of interactive activities to test your memory.

You will receive access to the word packs as you progress through The Journey. Thus, you will study Portuguese vocabulary by topic, including food, travel, and more. You will start with the basics, but with each quiz, you will see your understanding grow and your proficiency level increase.

How to Use Your New Vocabulary Builder

You will have direct access to the Vocabulary Builder in The Journey. A new vocabulary pack becomes automatically available whenever you start an Exposure Lesson. Also, when you reach a Vocabulary Retention page, you will not see a link to Memrise as before. Instead, you will see the list of words to learn. Simply click on Learn Words to go directly to the learning session without unnecessary menus or pages.

You can also access the platform to revisit your vocabulary lists through a new icon in the left sidebar. Your vocabulary packs will appear on the tool’s main page.

Measuring Progress

Your Vocabulary Builder includes several tools to help you measure and manage your progress. For example, you will find a progress bar on each word package. Plus, you can manually mark words you find difficult or skip those you find easy. This way, you can measure your improvement in Portuguese vocabulary and focus on growing your skills.
