As a base, we used scientifically proven techniques to help with master pronunciation, phrase construction, oral understanding, grammar, and all the necessary bits to get you to fluency. 2. Wonderful I had been confused about when to use the feline of a word, when speaking to a woman or always because I am a woman. I thought I would post my question in The Journey forum but never got around to it.

I do have a question about the o at the end of obrigado and posso, it does not sound as of you are pronouncing the o but I donโ€™t remember from your lesson about O sounds learning about a dropped sound. Can you tell me if this is a dialect or colloquial thing to drop the o sound at the end of some words?

    1. Olรก ๐Ÿ™‚ Im glad this video has helped you with a question you had.
In regards to the โ€œoโ€ at the end of words Itโ€™s a very subtle and short one, but we may drop it when speaking at a normal speed and when itโ€™s followed by a word that starts with a vowel. There are Portuguese people who always drop the end โ€œoโ€, but thatโ€™s more of a regional thing.

  3. Thanks for another great video! Would you guys ever do a video on Angolan Portuguese? There’s loads of content on the differences between European and Brazilian Portuguese out there but very little on African dialects.

  4. muito obrigado pelo episรณdio. Podiam explicar me o melhor forma para responder neste situaรงรฃo – num corredor no supermercardo, alguem disse “Com licenรงa” para passar – como devo responder? Forรงa ou desculpe? Nรณs ingleses gostamos de pedir desculpa toda a hora ๐Ÿ˜‰ Really useful having a lesson on figures of speech – these are fiendishly difficult to acquire or even come across without being taught by native speakers.

  9. Amazing!!!Very helpful indeed. I want to learn a more formal Portuguese language, please!! Thank you so much both of you guys.

    1. Sim, a palavra โ€œgozarโ€ tem significados diferentes em Portugal e no Brasil. Em portuguรชs de Portugal pode significar 2 coisas diferentes. 1. To make fun of or to tease someone/ to joke
      2. To enjoy (a holiday, for example)

  10. Itโ€™s challenging to learn a new language for the sake of โ€œknowingโ€ it, but it actually takes on a level of enjoyment when you can learn a language for the sake of โ€œunderstandingโ€ it. Your approach makes it easier to understand the โ€œwhyโ€ behind Portuguese. Knowing + understanding is the best kind of learning for me. My wife and I love to travel internationally and are planning our first trip to Portugal in April. This should help :-). Thank you!!

    1. Youโ€™re very welcome ๐Ÿค— and weโ€™re sure youโ€™re going to have a great time in Portugal!

  11. Great video! As somebody whose native language is Spanish I’m amazed at how similar most of these expressions are.

  12. This one and this kind of thing will be very helpful for the “Portuguese for tourists” stage that I am at, and I hope to see more of this kind for my upcoming trip.

  13. Sou Portuguรชs e apesar de nรฃo estar ร  procura de vรญdeos que ensinem a minha prรณpria lรญngua materna, devo dizer que os vรญdeos deste canal sรฃo excelentes! Muitos parabรฉns pela qualidade e por explicar tรฃo bem o Portuguรชs Europeu.

  14. If someone says forรงa, how do you know if it is being said begrudgingly or willingly? In Brazil they say claro which implies permission.

    1. Tone of voice, facial expressions and body language play a huge part in the way we communicate with others, you just have to watch for those as well as the actual words being used ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ Saying that, more often than not โ€œforรงaโ€ is used willingly and not begrudgingly.

  16. Hi Carla, muito obrigado for these videos, I just started learning Portuguese for my travels. Would you use adeus/tchau when leaving a shop, bar or cafe for example, or would com licenรงa be more fitting?

    1. Olรก, AbXorb๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿฝ in those situations and when leaving itโ€™s best to just say: obrigada/o, bom dia.
Of course it will depend on the time of day, but any of these will be fine – Bom dia/boa tarde/boa noite/ bom fim de semana ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ
